Admissions Procedure for Boys and Girls at 13+

Initial visit

Your initial visit to the College should be arranged through the Admissions Office by telephone or e-mail. This visit takes place on a Saturday morning during term time and includes an introductory talk by the Headmaster, an opportunity to meet a Housemaster or Housemistress, followed by an individual tour of the College with a Senior pupil. On this initial visit, we are happy to see the whole family, but it is not essential that your son or daughter accompanies you. As we do not hold official ‘Open Days’, you will be able to experience Bradfield on a normal working Saturday.

Registration

Should you wish to pursue the admissions process after this initial tour of the College, you should complete our Provisional Entry Form, stating your preferred Senior House (if known), and return it, together with the entry fee, to the Admissions Office. This indicates interest and is not equivalent to a Senior House place. You will then receive copies of the Headmaster's Newsletters and other relevant literature. At this stage no guarantee can be given that there will be a vacancy. The fee is not refundable.

Housemaster/Housemistress Interview

Having completed a Provisional Entry Form, an interview with a Housemaster or Housemistress should be arranged through the Admissions Office.  This should take place from January of Year 6. It is essential that both parents and their son or daughter attend.

Guaranteed offer of a place

Once the College has established that your son or daughter is a suitable candidate for admission, the Housemaster or Housemistress of your chosen Senior House will send out an Offer Letter and Final Entry Form offering your child a guaranteed place. This will take place no earlier than 20 months before the proposed date of entry.

On acceptance of this offer, your child has a Guaranteed Place at Bradfield College subject to the Terms and Conditions of Entry and to a satisfactory performance in the Common Academic Scholarship Examination, the Bradfield College Scholarship Examination, the Common Entrance Examination or our own entrance tests. A Guarantee Fee, currently £1,000, is payable on acceptance of this place and this is refundable when your child leaves the College. Should your child fail Common Entrance, or if their Preparatory School Head advises that, for academic reasons, he/she should try for a less competitive school, the Guarantee Fee is refundable. The Guarantee Fee is not refundable in the event of you choosing an alternative destination for your son or daughter.

Where a child is provisionally registered within 20 months of the proposed date of admission, a Guaranteed Place will be offered as soon as possible. Parents should discuss this when they see the Housemaster or Housemistress.

Final confirmation of entry will be sent after the Common Entrance Examinations in June or, for Scholarship candidates, after the Common Academic Scholarship and the Bradfield College Scholarship Examinations, and for non-Common Entrance candidates, after the Bradfield Entrance Examinations in January or February of the year of entry.
