Armstrong House is a senior boarding house of 70 girls. The resident Housemistress, Anna Spillane, is supported by a team of seven tutors and a Matron, Caroline Dandy.

Anna Spillane

Anna brings a wealth of experience to her role as Housemistress of Armstrong House having previously been Deputy Housemistress in Stanley House, Palmer House and Faulkner’s Girls.

Before joining Bradfield in 2018 as a Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages and Psychology, Anna taught at King Henry VIII School in Coventry. Prior to her career, Anna obtained a Master of Science in Psychology and a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages from the University of Nottingham; having already achieved a Bachelor of Arts, in German and Italian, from the University of Leeds.

Anna grew up in a school so her knowledge of schools as communities runs deep. As well as fine linguist, Anna is a keen sportswoman – she enjoys netball and swimming as well as painting in her free time.

We guide the girls to make the best decisions possible and make the most of their opportunities, so that they are able to thrive personally and in all areas of College life.

“Armstrong House is a kind and supportive community in which the girls celebrate their individuality alongside their sense of unity and House spirit. When the girls come into Armstrong, they know they are coming into a warm, welcoming and caring home-from-home, where they are supported not only by an experienced team of Tutors, a Matron and domestic staff, but also by their peers. As a House team we guide the girls to make the best decisions possible and make the most of their opportunities, so that they are able to thrive personally and in all areas of College life.”
