HRH The Duke of Edinburgh visits the Bradfield Club in Peckham
The Bradfield Club was honoured by a recent visit from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, who, as the Patron of London Youth, was invited to visit two of London Youth's member Clubs. The Club started as a Mission in 1890, and today continues to provide a stable and supportive environment for young people.
The Bradfield Club was chosen, along with Westminster House Youth Club, from over 400 London Youth members, as it is undergoing a renaissance, having fallen into relative inactivity over the past few years.
Key to this regeneration has been significant building works, including repairs to the Sports Hall roof, installing heating and ventilation, fixing the lighting and hot water, and most importantly, making the building “fire safe’’; His Royal Highness was the first person to sign the new Visitors’ Book. The visit was very successful and HRH saw a number of activities enjoyed by the boys and girls, including pool, DJing, cooking, Taekwondo, art workshops, tennis, and displays of the Club’s activities. He made an effort to speak to all the children and young people, who were very excited and honoured to have the opportunity to talk to him, even if some were a little shy.
He also met many of the Club’s guests from partner organisations, in particular Bradfield College and Old Bradfieldians, as well as All Saints Church. Before leaving the Club, His Royal Highness was presented with a Club T-shirt and baseball cap, decorated by Club members and presented by Julia Atohengbe and Adeola Paul. In the evening there was a Dinner for a invited guests, including the Headmaster, Peter Roberts.
