The Chapel
The Chapel at Bradfield is central to the life and ethos of the College. All pupils have to attend Chapel services as part of their weekly programme with some choice given as to the services they attend. Every term the whole College gathers for a College Eucharist and other services mark major festivals in the Christian year and College traditions. The College is an Anglican foundation and services in the Chapel reflect this tradition, but other denominations and faith groups are welcome.
The Chaplain
The Chaplain, The Reverend Godfrey Hilliard, is an Anglican priest serving the whole of the Bradfield College community. This encompasses the pupils and their families, and the teaching and support staff and their families – whatever their faith or belief. The Chaplain works to enable the spiritual development of the pupils in particular and the rest of the community in general.
The Chaplain provides positive support for people of other faiths and encourages the pupils to meet with other like-minded people, in groups, in order to discuss their faith and pray together. The hope is that they will feel able to share their spirituality with the rest of the community so that a greater understanding and awareness of different spiritualities will enhance College life.
The Chaplain is part of the pastoral network within the College and is available at any time to help pupils and staff. Sometimes pupils will call on him unprompted, but it is commonly the case that the Housemaster, Housemistress or a parent seeks his help with a pupil. This is obviously appropriate when matters are of a moral or spiritual nature, or in cases of family break-up, sickness or bereavement. However, the Chaplain also has a different perspective from many of the other people working at Bradfield, so his help can be very useful when youngsters are in personal difficulties of a more general nature.
