Faulkner's
Boarding House for Year 9 (13+ Entry)
The importance of your child’s first year at a senior school cannot be overestimated. Faulkner’s is an innovative, purpose-built complex for the exclusive use of the 13+ girls and boys at Bradfield College, providing a home-from-home family environment within the framework of superb accommodation and facilities. In this way, Bradfield is able to focus on the provision of a broad range of opportunities, targeted at this specific age group, and designed to meet the distinctive needs of each boy and girl.
The staff in Faulkner’s place much emphasis on participation, ambition and willingness to support the community life at the College. This is best developed through a strong and supportive pastoral team, encouraging happiness, confidence and self-reliance amongst the girls and boys. Pastoral care of the highest quality is provided through a resident team of Housemaster and Housemistress, Assistant Housemaster and resident girls’ tutor and matrons; a dedicated team of non-resident staff provides additional support.
Within Faulkner’s each pupil is part of a ‘social’ of about 30 which includes all other new entrants registered for the Senior House that the pupil will go on to in 12 months' time. The conditions enable each pupil to thrive both academically and socially, while the progressive integration towards their Senior House gives each new pupil a solid foundation for a successful transition into the Shell (Year 10).
The facilities within Faulkner’s are excellent. All bedrooms are en-suite, and pupils enjoy easy access to comfortable common rooms and cooking facilities for snacks on the ground floor. Faulkner’s also has its own dining hall where staff and pupils enjoy their meals together. A central foyer provides a welcoming space for girls and boys to meet and mix, while fully equipped games and TV rooms allow pupils to unwind during breaks and at the end of the day.
