On Monday 16th March, Bradfield’s Boys’ 1st XI Football Squad competed for the Boodles U18 ISFA Cup versus Aldenham School at Sixfields Stadium, home of Northampton Town FC. Below, Head of Football Performance, David Chatwin, tells all about how the match went.

“Bradfield decided to play against the wind first half to gain that advantage in the second.  The swirling wind made a difference early on as kicking into it was proving difficult. As a result, Aldenham took advantage of this and struck twice in quick succession. Then Bradfield struck back with an excellent goal from Micah (E) from excellent approach play from Rio (D) and build up from Ollie (E) and Kris (H).  The comeback was on and with their tails up Bradfield scored again to level up proceedings when Rio (D) capitalised on sloppy defending to clip it over the goalkeeper from 20 yards.   Galvanised from this Bradfield started strongly in the second half, but their passing decisions needed more concentration and detail to them, and good opportunities were breaking down over simple technical actions. Aldenham had very powerful players and then came into the second half but some excellent defending from James (C) and Freddy (H) kept the visitors at bay.

Into extra time and there was nothing between the two sides and penalty kicks beckoned, until the opposition counter attacked from a Bradfield free kick and were awarded a penalty that they dually converted. Bradfield tried everything to equalise but just came up short in what was an excellent game and a great advert for Bradfield and Independent School Football.”
