Jazz on a Summer’s Evening 2026 did what it says on the tin. There was jazz – and much else besides – and the previous day’s rain departed to leave a beautiful summer’s evening. A capacity audience in the Greek Theatre enjoyed two hours of non-stop music, compered brilliantly by LVI students Amelie (M) and Silas (F) with tributes to UVI leavers from Mr Etherington, Concert Director.
Almost 90 pupils took part, performing in a wide variety of ensembles which this year included the Orchestra and Chapel Choir, proving that the jazz idiom need not be reserved only for Jazz and Big Bands. The programme included, among others, a song in French, a superb Musical Theatre item, a marching New Orleans Dixieland Band and a memorable finale which saw Greeker stage and Skene balcony full of Bradfield musicians, conducted by the incomparable Janette Mason, Head of Pop and Jazz. £10,000 was also raised for Teenage Cancer Trust. A wonderful evening and we already look forward to 2027, which will be 20th anniversary of the event at Bradfield.
