Designers harnessing sustainable power to compete in electric race

December 3, 2021

A group of pupils are embarking on a journey of discovery, failure and reward as they take on the challenge of designing and manufacturing an electric racing car to compete in an endurance race against other schools.

Upper Sixth Design pupil Lottie (K) and Shell Design Scholar Jayme (H) are heading up a team of engineers, designers, physicists and marketeers to build a car to compete in the 2022/23 season.

With wiring almost complete and the motor just about working, the team will next need to figure out how to create aerodynamic body-work and to what extent the battle between physics and pragmatism dictates their final design.
