The running time for the performance is 90 minutes without an interval.
PLEASE NOTE: This play contains themes which are of an adult nature and may not be suitable for those under the age of 11.
Performers
The role of THE SHEPHERD is played by two pupils. George will play the role on Saturday and in the Matinee on Monday at 3pm. Tom will play the role in the other two performances.
The role of THE QUEEN’S HANDMAIDEN is also played by two pupils. Ginny will play the role on Saturday and Tuesday evening. Amelie will play the role in both Monday performances.
All other cast members will be performing in all four performances.

It takes some time for an audience to be seated in the Greek Theatre, so we request that you aim to be seated about 20 minutes before the start time. The terraces are made of concrete; foam cushions will be available to borrow at the main entrance, or you may prefer to bring your own cushion, but not chair, to prevent numbness setting in! Kindly remember to return any borrowed items at the end of the performance. Please sit on the edge of a step as opposed to relaxing back onto the step behind.
Quiet please • κάθησο, σῖγα (Aristophanes Acharnians 43)
Once the play starts please do not move around during the performance; if you wish to take photos, please adjust your camera to silent mode with both the shutter sound and the flash off. Please refrain from posting any photos or videos publicly online.
‘It was Greek to me…’ (William Shakespeare Julius Caesar 1 ii) • καὶ βαρβαρικῶς καὶ ἑλληνικῶς (Xenophon Anabasis 8.1.1)
This play will, for the first time, be performed in a hybrid of both Classical Greek and modern English. A full synopsis of the play, including translations for the Classical Greek, can be found in the programme.
Bacchanalia • περί τους ἐράνους
Many people bring picnics as part of the Greek Play experience. There is an opportunity to picnic in the College grounds in the hours leading up to the play, especially on Hillside Rux and the area surrounding the Greek Theatre. Be careful with any glass objects and avoid popping corks at inappropriate moments! Please make sure you take everything with you as you leave. This year picnics are not permitted in the Theatre.
Bring me sunshine • περί τὰ σκιάδεια
The Greek Theatre is open to the elements, so it is advisable, depending on the weather forecast, to bring clothing/blankets to stay warm and dry.
In the event of drizzle or light rain, the show normally goes on, but please be circumspect with the use of umbrellas!
In the event of a shower the performance might be suspended for a while; in the event of heavy rain the performance might end prematurely.
In the event of an intractably pessimistic weather forecast the event will be cancelled.
