Why Study BTEC Sport?

This is intended as an Applied General qualification, equivalent in size to two A Levels. It has been designed as part of a two-year programme, normally in conjunction with one or more qualifications at Level 3 such as an A Level subject. This qualification is aimed at learners looking to progress to higher education in this sector and consists of 9 units – 6 mandatory (67%) and 3 external (33%).

 

What are the Requirements for the Course?

  • Grade 5 at GCSE PE, ideally a 6. Good GCSE Science and English grades would help!
  • You will need to be able to work independently on assignment writing.
  • You should have a strong work ethic outside the classroom.

 

How is the Course Delivered?

  • There is no practical assessment.
  • Assessed theory takes place via assignments
  • 12 lessons per week, split between 2 different teachers.
  • 9 modules, 6 of which are mandatory:
    – Anatomy and Physiology
    – Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being
    – Investigating Business in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry
    – Skill Acquisition in Sport
    – Professional Development in the Sports Industry
    – Sports Leadership
  • 3 optional units are likely to be:
    – Application of Fitness Testing
    – Sports Psychology
    – Sports Injury Management

 

Additional Information

  • The highest grade available is D*D* (distinction) which is equivalent to A* A* at A Level (112
    UCAS points).
  • It is accepted and viewed favourably by many UK universities and will teach you the writing
    skills applicable to university assignments, especially referencing
