Bradfield College Sixth Former Ava (K), has been signed with Reading FC Women after a fantastic season at Maidenhead United, where she was awarded ‘Young Female Player of the Year’ at the Football in Berkshire awards.
I’m delighted to sign for Reading FC Women where there is so much potential for a successful future. I can’t wait for the season ahead with such supportive teammates and experienced coaches. The hard work continues to get Reading back to where they belong!
Ava (K)
Head of Girls Football Sarah Thompson described Ava’s journey through her years at Bradfield. “Ava joined us as a football scholar in Year 9 and has had a remarkable journey during her time here at Bradfield College. She has been the top goal scorer in every age group she has represented, as well as adopting the role of Captain. We are thrilled to see Ava sign for Reading FC, who have high ambitions to push their women’s team forward under new ownership. Ava is no stranger to the club, having played for their development youth team during her teens. Ava has been specifically recruited by the women’s manager Ed Jackson-Norris from her previous club Maidenhead United. We are thoroughly looking forward to seeing what the next year has in store for Ava, both as Captain of the Girls’ 1st XI and as a new edition in the Reading Women’s squad.”
The Bradfield girls’ football programme is going from strength to strength, as Sarah explains “the growth of girls’ football at Bradfield continues to grow exponentially. We have 40 girls participating in football regularly, and are competitive throughout all competitions. Last year, the Girls’ 1st XI did remarkably well to get to the quarter final of the ISFA Cup, before drawing last years’ winners, Mount Kelly. The team did incredibly well, keeping a clean sheet for 60 minutes of the game, before Mount Kelly finally managed to break the scoreline. As a result, the Girls’ 1st XI will receive a bye in the ISFA Cup this upcoming year. We now have two U15 girls’ teams, with tremendous amounts of talent coming through to join the senior girls this year. The girls will start training as soon as term resumes, in preparation for Cup fixtures, and we are looking forward to getting back to action and continuing to develop on the pitch. The victory for the Lionesses in the European Championships last week should continue to help inspire young girls to play football, with England coming back from a goal down in every round of the knockout competition to be crowned champions. We hope the Bradfield girls demonstrate the same level of resilience as legends like Lucy Bronze, Leah Williamson, and Alessia Russo did in Switzerland.”
