Geography: Development Studies

February 12, 2018

Sixth Form Geography pupils enjoyed a workshop and lecture from Dr Jeremy Holland earlier this term, which provided them with an opportunity to enhance their academic studies on developing African and Asian countries.

Dr Holland, who is based in the Centre for Development Studies at Swansea University, spoke on his involvement with the Department for International Development and invited pupils to explore and discuss key social and political factors that could lead to successfully increasing development in a variety of countries.

Following the workshop, Dr Holland gave an open lecture on the broader topic of development, drawing from his personal experiences in Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Mozambique working with non-governmental and governmental organisations. Dr Holland’s first-hand accounts of development schemes provided new and interesting case studies for the Sixth Form pupils to apply to key course topics.
