Get in your bids: Silent auction prizes

We are once again running a Silent Auction at this year’s Jazz on a Summer’s Eve event with all of this year’s proceeds going to Epilepsy Action in memory of former pupil Harry Percy.

Epilepsy Action aims to provide accessible epilepsy healthcare services so that people with epilepsy have the support they need to manage their condition.

Will Lyons, Wine Columnist The Sunday Times and Vice President of The Sunday Times Wine Club

Described by The Spectator magazine as having one of the finest palate’s in Britain Will Lyons is a wine writer, author and broadcaster.  For more than a decade he has published a weekly column on wine, formerly in The Wall Street Journal and now The Sunday Times. His humorous, informed, down-to-earth writing has been recognized in both the Glenfiddich and Roederer wine writing Awards. He began his career in London, as a wine merchant in St. James’s for Justerini & Brooks where he developed a love for the classic wines of Europe. He has written for a variety of publications including The Scotsman, The Australian, Scotland on Sunday, The Reader’s Digest, The Spectator, Financial News and Decanter. And broadcast for a variety of outlets including the BBC, TalkRadio and WSJ.com.

Will is an increasingly familiar face in his capacity as a wine expert. He has compered Channel 4’s Taste Festivals, appeared at the Edinburgh Festival as well as presented wine events for The Wall Street Journal and The Times in Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo and Vienna.

Known for his discerning palate and accurate predictions Will is also an accomplished blind wine taster and has lectured on the art of wine appreciation at Oxford University, Edinburgh University, Bradfield, Eton and Rugby schools.

In 2014 he co-authored Selecting, Drinking, Collecting & Obsessing A Wall Street Journal Guide to Wine with fellow Wall Street Journal wine writer Lettie Teague.

He is a past president of the Edinburgh University Wine Society, where in between wine tasting, he read History. A Commanderie de Bordeaux, Lyons is Vice President of The Sunday Times Wine Club.

“Harry Percy was a photography pupil of mine as well as my tutee in his Sixth Form. He was a wonderful, friendly and talented young man and it is an honour to have this opportunity to raise money for this Charity, “Epilepsy Action”, which is committed to a better life for everyone affected by epilepsy.”

Alexandra has worked at Bradfield College since 2004 when she joined the Art department as the technician. In 2009 she helped set up the Photography Department whilst also teaching art GCSE and A Level pupils. Since 2017 she has also taught History of Art. Throughout this time, she has kept up a side-line hobby, drawing ‘pet portraits’ including dogs, horses and cats many of which were done for colleagues working at the school.

Drawings are done in compressed charcoal on A2 cartridge paper. Framing can be arranged at an additional cost of approximately £115 through Options Framing in Hungerford.
