On Monday 9th February, the U14A Girls Hockey team travelled to Nottingham to compete in the U14 Tier 2 National Finals.
With only the group winners progressing to the final a fast start was imperative. First up was Kent College, Pembury. The girls piled the pressure on but had to wait until the last minute to find the winner and get that all important first win on the board. The final two group games were more comfortable beating King’s Macclesfield and Culford school, booking our place in the final against James Allen’s school (JAGS).
The final followed a similar pattern to the first game. The girls playing some really good hockey in a high pressure environment but the JAGS keeper was on fire making a number of great saves. With a shootout competition looking more and more likely the pressure finally told and we went 1-0 up with 3 minutes to go via a penalty stroke.
The girls saw the rest of the game out and deservedly crowned national champions. A fitting end to a fantastic season. We cannot to wait to see what this team achieve in the next 4 years.
