After bowing out in the Semi Finals of the competition last year, our Girls 1st VII Netball team returned with a quiet drive for redemption this year, backed with months of consistent training. Their Semi-Final match against Wycombe Abbey on Tuesday 10th February involved a narrow first quarter deficit called for some tactical changes to be made, with eventual Opposition and Players’ Player of the Match, Eva (K), making an immediate impact. She found great depth to deliver beautiful balls to our shooting duo of Abby (I) and Charlotte (K). This strong attacking play, combined with fantastic gains from our centre pass defence, helped us take a 5 goal lead into halftime. Charlotte carried that momentum into the third quarter, turning and shooting with confidence at 100% accuracy. The fourth quarter had everyone on the bench and in the crowd holding their breath, with the margin continuously hovering around five goals. Ultimately, our 1st VII held their nerve to secure a 42–35 win.
The entire squad was deservedly awarded Coaches’ Players of the Match, with all 10 players taking to the court and contributing to the fantastic result. The team now looks ahead to the Finals in March, where the Southern and Northern regions will play off to become National Champions.
