Project progress on display in April Tour

April 24, 2023

Last Saturday Julia Bond, Capital Programme Manager and Kirsty Perkinson, the Bradfield Society’s Philanthropy Lead hosted 18 parents and alumni on the latest tour of St Andrew’s.

So much has changed since the last public tour in November. Now that the temporary roof has been removed, the external tour of the upper levels gave attendees unrestricted viewing of the newly laid traditional red-clay tile roof, complete with refurbished stonework and holes for the bats to be able to return to their roosts unhindered. Attendees also admired the craftsmanship of the completed ‘Witches Hat’.

The clever design of the new building will allow it to be a bit of a ‘tardis’ and achieve far more than you would think possible, whilst the building itself exudes the calm of its former purpose.

Internally the framework for both South and North Aisle Mezzanines area now in place and the new single floor level is being created. Visiting the site with these new structures in place gave an excellent framework with which to understanding the layout of the new building. The seminar space on the South Aisle Mezzanine with reading room below, the North Aisle with its presentation suite and refreshments area, with its study area above. The main collaboration area, with areas for quieter study until you reach the ultimate quiet study area of the former sanctuary.
