As the final gesture towards our 175th anniversary, Heads and Deputy Heads of School, Heads of House and senior College representatives filled and buried the 175 Time Capsule that will be opened in 50 years’ time, 2075, in a somewhat chilly ceremony in the Greek Theatre.

Coordinated by Al MacEwen, Bradfield Society Head of Engagement, Heads of School and Houses were instructed to find something appropriate to remember their time at Bradfield by. The offerings ranged from the predictable; sealed letters, House photos, a House badge, a House tie, House top, to a trophy and rather esoterically a Lei… The Close’s 2025 House Song rendition of  ‘How far I’ll Go’ from Moana will indeed live on! Additional letters came from Chief of Staff, Owen Adams on behalf of the Operational Staff and Fiona Quartermain.

There was some doubt as to whether the generous contributions would fit into the slender stainless steel capsule, however with careful adjustment and a final turn of the Allen key, Al MacEwen finally sealed the capsule. Where more apt than the iconic Bradfield venue of the Greek Theatre to commit this offering to the ground and the garden in the Greek Theatre proved perfect for this purpose. So, with the time capsule placed carefully into its home for the next 50 years, the senior pupils present covered the capsule over with earth.

Aside from the interest in each others contributions to the time capsule there was much discussion about its unearthing in 50 years time. ‘Part of the deal’ with the senior pupils was that they would return to see it re-opened.

Thank you to the Heads and Deputy Heads of School; Emma (M), Rio (D), Scarlett (K), Ziad (E) and Heads of House; Charlie (A), Harrison (C), Gabe (D), Jack (E), Archie (F), Benji (G), Torren (H), Daisy (I), Anna (J), Bella (K) and Tabitha (M) for your imagination in creating your time capsule contributions.

The College looks forward to welcoming you back in 50 years time… as 68 year olds, for the re-opening!
