As an institution we aim to ensure that circumstance doesn’t stand in the way of talent and ambition. At the start of 2025 we launched the 175 Bursary Fundraising Campaign reflecting 175 years of empowering potential through bursaries at Bradfield.
To understand the impact of a Bradfield bursary watch our ‘My Bradfield Bursary’ video series sharing the experiences of Danny, Devan, Katie and Hattie
Additionally we are delighted to share an open letter from 2025 leaver, Theo
Our campaign has three aims;
Honouring the past
Supporting talented and deserving pupils without the financial means to benefit from a Bradfield education, is a fundamental part of the College’s DNA. In the original statutes, as set out by our founder Sir Thomas Stevens 175 years ago, it calls for 16 pupils or 10% of the original College roll to be ‘Founder’s Boys’, either Fatherless or the son of a poor Gentleman or Clergyman. The College remains to this day committed to a policy of means-tested financial support, helping to transform the lives of our bursary award holders by providing the opportunities, environment, and support to excel.
Nurturing talent
Bursaries also play a crucial role at Bradfield in promoting our core values of Kindness, Integrity, Respect, Inclusivity and Positivity. This provision helps to create a diverse student body that enriches the overall academic and social experience at the college that thrives on a variety of perspectives and experiences. Bursary Award holders often bring unique insights that can enhance classroom discussions, foster collaboration, and contribute to a richer cultural environment. They also bring talent – our current Bursary Award holders have earned 48 scholarships across all disciplines, including 10 Academic, 8 All-Rounder, 1 drama, 20 sport, 1 Art, 1 Drama, and 8 Music scholarships.
Empowering the Future
Giving the gift of a great education can transform a child’s life, and we hope that in return, it will enable them to transform the lives of others. Against the backdrop of VAT and the increasing financial and economic challenges, ensuring the continued provision of these bursaries is even more important ever. Access to education is a major challenge in our society, as the gap between the rich and poor keeps growing. Bradfield understands the important role we must play in addressing this and we aim to ensure that circumstance doesn’t stand in the way of talent and ambition.
The Power of Collective Philanthropy: Together we can make a difference
Whether you can make a single gift, a regular donation, or if you can’t help right now due to financial commitments but could leave a gift in your Will; your gift will help create life-changing experiences for talented, deserving young people, regardless of their background.
WAYS TO GIVE
Single Gift
£25, £100, £500, £1000, £5000
Whatever size of gift you can give will help make a difference. And if you are a UK Taxpayer we may be able to claim Gift Aid on your donation, meaning your gift will have an even greater impact, adding an extra 25% to the value of your donation at no extra cost to you.
Regular Giving
Join other regular givers by setting up a monthly, quarterly or annual standing order to help spread the cost of your donation. Giving regularly means that collectively we can make a difference.
We have regular givers who donate from £10 a month up to £5000 each year.
Leave a Gift in your Will
We recognise that some would like to support our 175 Bursary Fund Appeal but appreciate there may be many demands on finances that make it difficult to donate right now. Joining our 1850 Legacy Society and leaving a gift in your will is an easy, tax-efficient way to leave a final tribute to Bradfield College that will so much to future generations.
