The Medical Centre plays an important and integral part in the overall pastoral care and welfare of all pupils at the College.

The Medical Centre is staffed during term time by a team of qualified Nurses, a Healthcare Assistant and supported by GPs from the nearby Surgery at Chapel Row. The extended team includes a visiting Physiotherapist and a Talking Therapies Team which consists of Counsellors, a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) therapist and a psychologist.

There is daily close cooperation between the medical staff and all the Houses, alongside an extensive weekly Welfare Management Team meeting with all areas of pastoral provision represented. This ensures that parents are kept appropriately informed on any medical issues concerning their child.

It is recommended that all pupils are registered with the College GPs at the Chapel Row Surgery.

Pupil care

Nurses are available during the day Monday to Saturday for appointments or drop in visits. Emergency treatment and sudden illness can be dealt with at any time.

In addition, there is a daily Doctor’s surgery (Monday to Friday).  All prescriptions are delivered from the local dispensary at the Chapel Row Surgery and regular medication can be ordered through the Medical Centre.

The Medical Centre is equipped with ten beds for pupils requiring observation and overnight accommodation. All routine and minor injuries can be cared for easily on site.

Any pupils with more serious conditions requiring hospital treatment are always accompanied to the nearby Minor Injuries Unit at the West Berkshire Hospital or to A&E at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
