Palmer House is a senior boarding house of 63 girls. Leanne Rowlands is the Housemistress and is supported by a team of seven tutors, one resident tutor and a Matron, Louisa Kruczko.

Leanne Rowlands

Leanne joined Bradfield from Marlborough College Malaysia in September 2017 bringing thirteen years of boarding and pastoral experience to her post as Housemistress of Palmer House. Leanne studied Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University where she competed for the athletics team and captained the 1st VII netball. Leanne has always been a keen sportswoman and has competed internationally in athletics (100m, 200m, Triple Jump) and netball.

Leanne started her teaching career at St Edward’s Oxford as a PE teacher and Resident House Tutor where she enjoyed success coaching the 1st VII netball and overseeing the running of athletics. In 2005, Leanne took the role of Head of Girls’ Sport at Marlborough College UK and ran netball, tennis and athletics. In 2009, Leanne became Housemistress and Head of Academic Physical Education at Tudor Hall School.

At Marlborough College Malaysia, Leanne set up the Senior Girls’ Boarding, academic PE (GCSE and IB Sport Health and Exercise Science) and taught Psychology. She also implemented an Artemis programme in the Senior Houses taking over the running of the PSHE, Wellbeing and Mindfulness curriculum. Leanne spent much of her free time travelling South East Asia during her tenure in Malaysia.

Nicola Armstrong

Nicola studied Economics at Durham University before pursuing a career in banking. She spent 11 years in the industry working in both London and Hong Kong. After having her own family, Nicola decided it was time for a change and embarked upon a career in teaching. Educating and working with young people was something that Nicola had always been passionate about since her own, very happy, school days at Queen Anne’s, Caversham.

Nicola joined Bradfield in 2014 as a Maths teacher and during her six years at the College, has derived a huge amount of enjoyment and satisfaction from teaching, tutoring, coaching lacrosse and being a Deputy Housemistress. The Housemistress role is something Nicola has always wanted to do and she is excited by the opportunity to support the girls through such important and formative years.

Nicola is married to Nick and they have two girls, Tilly and Sophie. Nicola enjoys time with her family, loves all sports, enjoys travelling (Asia is very special to her but her happiest place is definitely the South coast of Devon) and is a very enthusiastic cook (especially baking!).

Palmer House is somewhere where girls can enjoy being themselves whilst being part of a supportive, caring, happy and exciting community – House tops are worn with pride. Happy pupils will often exceed expectations and that has been our experience in Palmer whether it has been in their academic progress or co-curricular involvement, or both!
