Stanley House is a senior boarding house of 58 girls. The resident Housemistress, Helen Peters, is supported by a team of seven tutors and a Matron, Liz Gibbs.

Helen Peters

Helen grew up in Yorkshire and read Law at university in Newcastle. On graduation she decided to eschew the Law in favour of the more glamourous world of Advertising, where she worked for ten years in some of London’s top agencies. During this time, Helen became a senior Account Director responsible for producing campaigns for several household names and large multinationals. As well as running these campaigns, she also ran the graduate recruitment and mentoring programmes for the junior members of staff.

After having children, Helen took a change of direction in her career and went back to university to retrain as a teacher. Following a PGCE in secondary education from Oxford Brookes University she has taught in both the State and Public School systems; Helen therefore brings a wealth of diverse experience to this role.

In her limited spare time, Helen likes to dance – something that she taught and performed (competitively) up until the age of 19 and which she has never lost the love of. Helen is married to James and they have two children, Cecily and George.

Stanley’s culture is based upon principles of positivity, curiosity, ambition, individuality and healthy competition; our aim being for each girl to exceed her potential, both personally and academically.

Helen Peters, HsM - Stanley House (M)

“Stanley House is a strong and vibrant community that provides a secure ‘home away from home’ for its 60 girls. We value the talents and strengths that each girl brings to the House and encourage each of them to become actively involved in all aspects of life within the House and College.”
